A fatal crash in the northbound lanes of I-83 – between Exit 33: Yocumtown and Exit 34: Valley Green – has closed all lanes of traffic in the area. The accident happened a little after nine a.m. Thursday morning. Reports indicate the York County Coroner has been dispatched to the scene.
Traffic delays are expected to continue. It is still unknown how many vehicles were involved in the crash.
This is a separate incident from another crash reported two hours earlier in the same area. According to 911, emergency responders were called to the scene of a multi-vehicle accident just after seven a.m. on Interstate 83 going northbound which blocked a lane near the Yocumtown exit. No injuries have been reported at this time, but the crash did bring traffic to a standstill.
Related Incidents on Interstate 83
There have been several related incidents on this stretch of highway over the past several months.
In October, three people were killed on I-83 near Exit 48 for Union Deposit Road after a truck driver failed to stop for slowed traffic ahead of him in the northbound lanes. The driver, under the influence of alcohol, collided with 11 vehicles before fleeing the scene on foot and being subsequently charged with a DUI and homicide by vehicle.
Another accident in May of this year happened on I-83 near Exit 33 for Yocumtown. A woman was killed traveling northbound trying to avoid an earlier crash when she was hit by a tractor-trailer which caused her vehicle to crash into a tow truck.
The previous incident involved a rear-ended collision between two vehicles that left one vehicle disabled in the left-hand lane and the other vehicle resting on the right-hand lane along the guardrail. The crash resulted in minor injuries.
