At Schmidt Kramer we offer a free, initial case review with a lawyer to help determine if you have a case. There are no upfront fees while we work on your case and there are no fees if we do not recover compensation on your behalf.
If we successfully negotiate a settlement or recover compensation, a percentage of the amount awarded will be used to cover our costs. The percentage is agreed upon before we take your case and it may vary, depending on the type of case.
How Do Contingency Fees Benefit Me?
We believe that everyone should have access to high quality legal representation. Our “no upfront fee” service helps to ensure that injury victims can access premium quality legal advice to ensure that their rights and best interests are being protected.
Hiring a lawyer on contingency also helps to level the playing field when the at-fault party is represented by a large corporation or insurance company, which often have significant financial resources and large legal teams to defend the cases they handle.
Our legal team has many years of experience handling cases against these types of organizations and we have a proven track record of success.
What We Discuss in a Free Initial Consultation
The initial consultation is the first opportunity for a lawyer to review your potential claim. You may also learn more about:
- How we may be able to help
- The benefits of working with a lawyer
- The fees we charge
There is also no obligation to hire our law firm. However, should you decide to hire us, our fees will be clearly explained and included in our contract.
It is important to note that both parties (the client and the attorney) must sign the contract before we can begin working on your case.
Once we sign on to a case, it becomes our job to pursue maximum compensation.
What Happens When the Case Concludes?
If we are successful, either by negotiating an insurance settlement or through a jury award of compensation, we will provide you with a document detailing the settlement and our fees. This document will also note any outstanding medical bills or debts with your health insurer. We can help you handle these debts with the compensation from your award.
Once you and your lawyer sign the contract, compensation is paid out – victims receive compensation after lawyer fees and other costs are paid.
How Are Upfront Fees Different?
Law firms that charge up front often require clients to pay a retainer, or “earnest money,” or a deposit on your legal fees. Clients are paying their attorney out of pocket to represent them – the costs are not advanced until the end of the legal process. There is a fixed fee per hour and sometimes flat fees for each specific legal filing or service.
